Erosion and Sediment Control
Workshops, armidale regional council
The ‘Principles of Erosion and Sediment Control Workshops’, led by Shonelle Gleeson-Willey from Moss Environmental, were developed in response to a successful Industry Information Evening hosted by Armidale Regional Council in November 2015 which identified erosion and sediment control as an area of concern.
The workshop was designed to provide builders and developers with the skills needed to determine appropriate, site-specific erosion and sediment control measures. It aimed to enable them to identify what measures should be put in place to suit the site they are working on. It also provided them with the knowledge and understanding to determine when it is necessary to bring in expert help.
The workshop provides participants with an understanding of how to identify and minimise environmental risk associated with construction activities and work towards meeting legal and regulatory requirements. It provided an overview of the science of soils, causes and types of erosion and steps participants through the ‘Blue Book’ which is the accepted industry best practice guide .
